Each player participating in the GW
Tournament Circuit for 2008 must begin by
obtaining a Tournament Player ID number.
If you already have one from the 2007 Tournament
Circuit, then you may use that number again
for 2008. For details on how to obtain a
new Tournament Player ID or find out what
your old number is, check
here.
Once you have your Player ID, register
for the event as normal. When you check
in at the event, the organizers will record
your Player ID so that you can be awarded
your Tournament Circuit Points.
At the end of the event, players will
receive Tournament Circuit Points based
on how they finished overall at the event.
There are two standard sets of points that
are available at the events on the Circuit
for 2008. They are as follows:

Following each of these events, the organizers
will send us the ranking from each of the
tournaments and we will get them updated
in the Your Statistics section of this site.
Your Statistics
The results for each tournament as well
as the updated overall Circuit standings
will be added to the
Statistics Page as they become available
after each event. We will work hard to provide
this information in a timely manner so that
you can keep track of your standing.
At the end of the year, we will total
up the top THREE points values that you
have earned over the season and it is this
total that we will use to determine the
Games Workshop Tournament Circuit Champions
for 2008.
You can view the 2007 statistics here
to get an idea of how it will work.

Changes from the 2007 Circuit
|
Some of you that followed
the 2007 Circuit closely we
notice a few changes to the
scoring approach for 2008. These
changes have been made after
carefully considering the great
feedback we received from many
of the players who really invested
themselves in the events.
Clearly Set Tournament
Circuit Points Values
There was a bit of confusion
about how many points could
be earned at each event. This
year it is very clear. The Games
Day Tournaments have a reduced
Tournament Circuit Points value
as they are typically smaller
events (fewer games and a smaller
field) with the added distractions
of Games Day itself. We will
see how this system goes for
2008.
No Bonus Points for
Other Awards
We had one or two situations
last year where players won
3rd Overall and (by the GW system
of “more awards to more
people”) were therefore
ineligible to win the Best Painted
(or Best Sportsman) prize that
then went to the player that
had won 4th place. Because of
the Bonus Points, the 4th placed
player received more Tournament
Circuit Points than the 3rd
placed player. We thought that
was pretty strange and so this
year we are not awarding any
bonus Circuit points for Best
Painted, Best General, Best
Sportsman and the like. Please
note, these types of awards
will still be presented at events,
they just won’t earn bonus
Tournament Circuit Points. The
fact that most the independently
run tournaments have all manner
of their own special awards
only adds to the confusion,
so we definitely think removing
them from the Circuit scoring
system is the right thing to
do.
Points Cap
This is primarily a response
to requests from dozens of last
year's participants, including
many of those who attended all
of the events on the Circuit.
We agree that players shouldn't
have to attend upwards of a
dozen events to have a chance
at winning the Tournament Circuit.
As a result, we have decided
to only count the top THREE
Circuit scores for each player
when calculating the final Circuit
standings. This way more hobbyists
will have a chance at reaching
the top grouping and we suspect
the players who jet around to
lots of tournaments will still
perform very well. This will
also mean that more of your
precious hobby dollars can be
spent supporting your local
hobby store rather than being
handed over to hotel chains
and airlines! |
