Well,
it has been quite a year of competitive
hobbying. We added a new venue to our Grand
Tournaments (Las Vegas), we returned to
one of our old haunts (Baltimore), and we
were lucky enough to be joined on our “Tournament
Circuit” by two great community-run
hobby events in Adepticon (Chicago, IL)
and The Necronomicon (Orlando, FL).
We’d like to take you back to the
start of the year, when we posted these
words on our website and printed them in
White Dwarf:
The
thunderous roar of the battlefield
returns in full force in 2007!
Games Workshop, working in conjunction
with organizers of select independent
events across the country, is
proud to present the 2007 Tournament
Series. This system will chronicle
the exploits of generals around
the country and crown a champion
at the end of the year for Warhammer,
The Lord of The Rings, and Warhammer
40,000!
The
Circuit
Starting in 2007, the tournament
season will run from January
to November each year. This
circuit will be a collection
of selected events that players
can participate in to score
points toward the national rankings.
These events will be premier
gaming events around the country
that will feature great armies,
gorgeous terrain, and exciting
activities.
Each
tournament will continue to
be a discrete event as well
as part of the circuit. Thus,
if you are not interested in
the overall rankings and simply
want to go out and have a great
time over a weekend, the system
provides for that and allows
you to be competitive at individual
events! The organizers of each
event will set the rules, the
points values for the armies,
the schedule, and the like. |

It was our intent to add an extra boost
to our tournament scene, provide an additional
incentive for the veteran competitive player,
and be more inclusive of great community-run
events that we wish to promote. On the back
of the three paragraphs above and a little
bit of faith, over 1000 gamers rallied to
the cause.
The Circuit included nine 40K Tournaments,
nine Warhammer Tournaments and seven Lord
of The Rings Tournaments. These tournaments
were held at Adepticon,
Atlanta
Games Day, Las
Vegas GT, Baltimore
Games Day, The
Necronomicon, Chicago
GT, LA
Games Day, and Baltimore
GT.
Points
We awarded points based on placing at each
particular event. Each type of event had
it’s own points scale, typically the
larger an event was the more points that
were awarded, with our own GTs at the top
of the heap. We didn’t do a very good
job of clearly stating the Circuit points
that could be awarded at each event, which
caused a bit of confusion around the country,
and for that we apologize.
Winners
We have tallied up the total number of points
at the end of the season and the following
players have come out on top of the Tournament
Circuit.

Congratulations to these nine guys, and
a heartfelt “Thank You” to all
of the great hobbyists who participated
in the inaugural Tournament Circuit season.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be adding
interviews with these hobbyists to complete
their “Profile of Legend” (or
a similar impressive title) in the Hall
of Champions.

PS. We would also like to take this opportunity
to thank the staff that made it all happen.
The Tournament Circuit has taken almost
18 months to reach this stage, from concept
to final execution, so a big thanks to those
who worked hard to make a cool idea a reality.
Thanks go to all the staff at all of the
events on the Tournament Circuit who really
put in a lot of hours of very hard work,
lifting tables, moving terrain, entering
and checking scores, answering some tough
rules questions, before going through the
process of packing everything up again.
An old boss of ours once said “Our
hobby isn’t a convenient one.”
The staff of these great events this year
can truly attest that this is the case but,
as they’ll also tell you, with passion
and enthusiasm, any inconvenience can be
swept aside. Roll on 2008!
